Getting to Know PGWI and Mount Sewu Geotourism – Gentara Radio


As part of efforts to increase public understanding of geotourism, the Gunung Sewu Indonesian Geotourism Guide Association (PGWI) chaired by Suryo Perment collaborated with 107.1 Gentara FM. Presenting a special program entitled PGWI Gunung Sewu Radio Talkshow. This program will be broadcast for the first time on Wednesday, February 19 2025, from 19.00 to 21.00 WIB via live broadcast on Instagram @gentarafmofficial as well as terrestrial broadcast on the frequency 107.1 FM Gentara FM.

Get to know PGWI and Mount Sewu Geotourism

In this first episode, the talk show will raise the main topic Get to know PGWI and Mount Sewu Geotourism. Through this discussion, listeners will gain in-depth insight into the role of PGWI in developing geotourism in the Mount Sewu area, which has been recognized as a Global Geopark by UNESCO.

PGWI (Indonesian Geotourism Guide Association) itself is an organization that focuses on improving the quality of geology-based tour guides. With this talk show, PGWI Gunung Sewu wants to educate the public about the importance of geological conservation, ecotourism, and economic opportunities that can be developed through geotourism.

Collaboration with Gentara FM

As a community radio based in Wonogiri, Central Java, 107.1 Gentara FM is the right media to disseminate information about Mount Sewu geotourism to the wider community. With live broadcasts via Instagram and radio frequencies, it is hoped that this talk show can reach more listeners, both from academics, tourism practitioners and the general public who are interested in the potential of natural tourism.

What Will Be Discussed?

In this talk show, several things that will be discussed include:

  • History and role of PGWI in the development of geotourism in Indonesia.
  • The potential and tourist attraction of Mount Sewu as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
  • Opportunities and challenges in developing conservation-based geotourism.
  • The role of geotourism guides in providing educational experiences to tourists.

By presenting resource persons Suryo Perment (Chairman of PGWI) who are competent in their fields, it is hoped that this event can provide useful insights and inspire more people to take part in the preservation and development of geotourism in Indonesia.
